About the CSS Examination
The Central Superior Services (CSS) examination is Pakistan’s premier competitive examination, conducted annually by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) to recruit officers for the country’s top civil service groups, including the Police Service, Foreign Service, and Administrative Service among others. It’s widely regarded as one of the most competitive exams in Pakistan, with only a small share of applicants ultimately recommended for appointment.
Exam structure
CSS is a multi-stage process. Candidates first sit a written examination consisting of compulsory and optional subject papers. Those who clear the written stage with the required aggregate move on to a medical examination and psychological assessment, followed by a final interview conducted by FPSC. Each stage has its own qualifying criteria, and candidates who don’t meet the required standard are eliminated at that stage.
